Mujibnagar Upazila is the smallest district of Meherpur district according to the population and volume. Meherpur sadar upazila on the north, Chuadanga district on the north, western bengal state of India on the south-west of Mujibnagar upazila. The activities of Mujibnagar upazila are started on February 24, 2000. Mujibnagar's former name is Baidyanathtala. No specific information was found in the name of the upazila. However, it was known that during the War of Liberation in 1971, the headquarters of Bangladesh's temporary government was established in the famous Baidyanathtala Amro Canal and on April 17, the government's government cabinet sworn in. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was declared the first President of the temporary government. As a result, the place was named after the name of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Mujibnagar. Subsequently, "Swadhinata Smrishnodhudh" was constructed along with ancillary facilities and now a large project, called "Mujibnagar Compensation" along with the liberation war culture center is under implementation in order to build the historic site as a tourist destination.
